Dietary Guidelines

Friends of the Vine Retreats serve menus based around Shamanic and Ayurveda principles. You will have options that are always suitable for ceremonies with the plants from the indigenous perspective but in addition suitable for pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan diets.

Please Follow the guidelines. If you have any questions, please ask

A Simple Approach

You should prepare for the retreat by eating light, healthy meals.

The best way to approach this diet is with fresh, wholesome meals using fruits, vegetables, Potatoes, pulses and grains like Bulgar, brown rice, quinoa, and wholewheat.

Use moderate amounts of spices and cut back on your intake of salt and sugar as much as possible.

The Detailed Approach

3 Days before the retreat stop the following -

It is recommended to avoid heavily spiced, fried, or fatty foods.

Fermented or cured foods such as Kimchi, pickled or preserved vegetables. Aged cheeses such as Blue cheeses or Parmesan. ( Fresh cheese is ok but please reduce, ricotta, mozzarella, cottage cheese & cream cheese)

Garlic, additional salt or meat should not be consumed.

Do not consume alcohol, stimulants such as caffeine including caffeinated tea either.

We must stress that following dietary restrictions are a crucial component of the process.

Different Indigenous groups have their own preparation recommendations. We respect their point of view, we also advised to completely stop eating pork, spicy food, alcohol, strong condiments, and abstain from sexual activity three days before and after the retreat. (This is commonly know as a type of dieta)

For your own benefit & safety, please follow these guidelines.
